Our Program Philosophy
Walnut Street believes that children learn best through a variety of ways to foster the development of the whole child. We believe that child development milestones follow predictable sequences and development is unique to each child. Children need secure relationships, the opportunity to learn through play and guided scaffolding while solving their own problems and making choices.
We provide a balance of educational learning, hands-on experiences, structured play, organized activities, as well as supervised free play inside and outdoors. We firmly believe that oftentimes important skills, such as socialization, are learned just as effectively on the playground as well as in the classroom.
Our Center provides classrooms that foster self-esteem, the love of learning, self-help skills, and building positive relationships. Nurturing warm and flexible interactions between adults and children leads to positive physical, cognitive, and social-emotional growth. Teachers act as facilitators who encourage and guide the children. The teachers use every opportunity to help children reach their potential while providing a clean, safe environment. The children are able to explore, create, problem-solve and develop at their own pace while being supported by teachers.
